The recent Conference of the Parties (COP30), held in Belem (Brazil) on the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, ended with a series of decisions that show the persistence of the multilateral process defining these climate summits, despite the desired ambition not being achieved. At the Donostia Sustainability Forum, Mª José Sanz, the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), explained that progress had been made regarding aspects such as climate finance and protecting tropical forests, in spite of the extremely complex geopolitical context, characterised by a global ‘polycrisis’.

"In the Basque Country, water consumption is very moderate. Household appliances are efficient and awareness is very high. You cannot ask more to our society".

"Hydrogen is going to gradually carve out a place in sustainable mobility, but if batteries take off and allow longer and longer ranges, they'll be a better solution in economic terms. And there's going to be a bit of a fight between the two technologies." Iosu Ibarbia, technology manager at CAF, came to the Donostia Sustainability Forum to explain the current position of transport based on electric batteries and on hydrogen, which already accounts for a large part of the integrated transport projects on which the Gipuzkoa-based company is working.
