Molecular electronics opens a wealth of opportunities related to the use of building blocks with built-in functionalities defined with atomic-scale precision by chemical means.

The workshop will be held on 5th-9th of September at the historical place Palacio Miramar in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain. The course will consist of formal invited talks as well as informal open-discussion, gathering with the 40 limited participants. The covered material will be: 1. Single-atom magnetic inelastic spectroscopy 2. Single-molecule magnetic inelastic spectroscopy 3. Localized moments on different substrates: metals, insulators, superconductors, topological insulators. 4. Spin dynamics on adsorbed atoms: T1 and T2 measurements and calculations. 5.

The course will consist of several seminars and computer practicals that will cover the main concepts introduced in the seminars. The school is part of a wider initiative “Passion For Knowledge” that will take to San Sebastian leading scientist around the world to share their research experience, like Nobel Laureate Prof. Martin Karplus, who will also participate in our school. The participants, therefore, will also benefit from an outstanding atmosphere and social activities around the school that will remark the links between science and society, in its more general sense.

Topological states of matters are of fundamental interests for their exotic properties manifest already at the single-particle description level. Seven leading experts will review the experimental and theoretical state-of-the-art for some of the most promising implementations such as semiconductor quantum dots, superconducting circuits, defect centers in diamond, photonic crystal structures, or topological insulators and explore the prospects of quantum computing, quantum simulation, and the physics of quantum many-body systems. Ample time is allotted for discussions and the participants can present their research at a poster session.

La madera es el material que ha acompañado al ser humano a lo largo de toda su historia, le ha dado luz, calor, herramientas y techos donde cobijarse. Éste último aspecto es sobre el que versará este curso; el uso de la madera en edificación y la necesidad actual de rehabilitar gran parte del patrimonio construido existente, de madera y con madera.
